Porter-Cable Air Compressors & How To Use Them
Things you will need
In order to use a porter cable air compressor, there are a few tools you will need to have on hand. Make sure you have all of the following available before you start trying to work with your porter cable air compressor:
- Safety glasses
- An adjustable wrench
- Air compressor hose
- Air compressor tools
- Plumber’s tape
- 115-volt electric circuit
Step by step guide
Using a porter cable air compressor is relatively straightforward, as long as you follow a few simple steps. Most porter cable air compressors work using the same systems, so the following instructions should apply to any porter cable air compressor that you may have available.
First, find the main knob of your air compressor, which is usually found near to the air outlet. Turn the knob anticlockwise as far as it goes in order to lock it fully. Then, attach the compressor to the air hose. Depending on what type of compressor you are using, it will either attach directly to the outlet port or with a quick connect fitting system.
Next, turn the compressor switch so that it is in the off position, facing upwards. Then set the porter cable air compressor into the appropriate electric circuit and turn it on to the “auto” setting. This will fill your air compressor’s tank. It should automatically stop filling when the air pressure has reached the appropriate level, so you won’t have to worry about keeping an eye on timing too carefully.
The next step is to connect your air compressor tool to the other end of the compressor hose. Hold the knob of your pressure regulator and turn it slowly and carefully in a clockwise direction until the pressure gauge matches the pressure of the tool. Now, you are ready to use your porter cable air compressor.
Once you are finished, turn off the switch. Then, release the air from the compressor by opening the drain valve located at the base of the air compressor tank. Usually, all you have to do for this step is simply turn the thumbscrew element in an anticlockwise direction. Then, finally, disconnect the porter cable air compressor and pack everything away.
Porter Cable Air Compressor Tips
Porter cable air compressors are handy and valuable tools, but there are a couple of tips that can help you to get the most out of your tools. The most important thing to remember is that when working with pressurized air, you should wear safety glasses at all times. This will protect your eyes from flying debris or other potential dangers.
If you do not have a quick-connect system, then plumber’s tape is the best option. Attach the hose to the outlet and wrap it tightly with the plumber’s tape. This will ensure that it is completely sealed up, maintaining high pressure and preventing the air from escaping around the connection.
